Poultry General Manager

The Poultry Manager is a staff position with overall
responsibility for all aspects of managing the layers.  The primary objective is to maximize profitability of egg production while also meeting our high standards for egg quality, food safety, humane animal care, environmental stewardship, and working conditions for the poultry care attendants. 
 Responsibilities include flock management, planning and scheduling to ensure optimal egg production and coordination to the extent possible across all farms for work flow optimization as well as management purposes; managing the nutrition program which includes working with the inside nutritionist for diet formulation and coordination with the feed mills; managing the vaccination
program;selecting the strains of hens;scheduling all flock replacements; analyzing the flock records on at least a weekly basis; providing flock performance input and poultry management guidance to Layer supervisors; and working
with the professional consultants retained by the farm, in addition to the nutritionist, including bench-marking consultants, on making critical
management decisions.
Duties:                                   
·  Oversees and manages procedures and processes related to egg production.
·  Monitors animal health and productivity for laying hens
·   Keeps current on accepted practices, current methods and new developments relating to
animal health and nutrition.
·   Closely monitors animal production measurements and implements necessary changes to ensure optimal long term economic outcomes.
·   Leads by example, actively participates in projects, looks for ways to improve practices, maintains a positive and constructive attitude, and is considered a team player.
·  Plays a key role on the farm management team.
·  Oversees analysis reports, and benchmarks productivity, operating expenses, and profitability.
.   Is the primary individual who interacts with the nutritionist, providing input to the nutritionist on each flock on a weekly basis and who reviews the diets provided by the nutritionist to ensure that our goal of optimizing income from our flocks are being met.  Ensures that the diets are being implemented properly at the feed mills by communicating constructively and effectively with the feed mill managers.
·  Maintains a constructive and effective relationship with production managers to ensure that our husbandry practices and other poultry care practices are being properly implemented.
·  Assists in the development of strategic plans to increase profitability.
·  Acts as a team player (supports and encourages co-workers and team members); treats all others with respect, including vendors so as to help maintain the standing of the farm in the community and egg and farming industry.
·  Spends appropriate level of time on a regular basis visiting each flock, examining the
hens, their care, being observant of all relevant factors including the state of building and equipment repair and proper operation of equipment and interacting with managers and poultry care attendants to remain aware of all
factors relevant to the caretaking of the pullets and laying hens.
·  Uses poultry house environmental control portals to check relevant factors including feed and water use, temperatures, ventilation controls, lighting controls and alarm settings.  Adjusts or manages adjustments as appropriate.
