United Arab Emirates University - Al Ain, Abu Dhabi - The successful candidate will work with the Doctor, in the Department of Food, Nutrition and Health, UAEU College of Food and Agriculture. This project will address 'Antimicrobial resistance in food borne pathogens'. Bacterial antimicrobial resistance is reported to surpass cancer as the main cause of death by 2050. This prompts a return to the pre-antibiotic era where even minor infections can be fatal. In this project, we will use modern molecular tools like DNA deep sequencing to address the issue of antimicrobial resistance. Fundamental understanding of the molecular aspects underpinning antimicrobial resistance will help identify new technologies that can be used to mitigate the spread of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria.
