Staff Scientist - Associate Level - Sidra Medical and Research Center (SIDRA)

The Research department will house several hundred researchers working on many aspects of Feto-maternal health. It will cover Basic, Translation, Clinical trials and Informatics research. The Dept. comprises two research floors totaling 10,000M2 and 9 smaller "satellite laboratories" throughout the hospital. The department will house basic laboratories as well as state of the art core facilities, e.g. Genomics, medicinal chemistry and Imaging.

 

The Staff Scientist - Associate Level contributes in research programs and performs a variety of procedures using established methods and techniques. The incumbent conducts complex experiments, critically evaluates scientific literature and findings, designs and performs experiments and interprets data.
* Performs moderately complex scientific research on high throughput data, at the highest standards, under the guidance and direction of an Investigator
* Assists with the planning and operations of major aspects of the research program
* Provides recommendations to the Staff Scientist/Investigator and ensures the provision of high quality services
* Monitors the development or progress of the assigned work area within the research program
* Assists with evaluating new and emerging processes to support scientific discovery at Sidra
* Identifies and develops solutions to technical problems
* Provides input to experiment design and database development
* Contributes to reports and publications; authors/co-authors papers, proposals, presentations and reports; gives invited papers
* Communicates results/findings to the relevant scientific community via published papers
* Works closely with the Investigators, Chairs and core facilities leaders to gauge/ understand their needs
* Interacts in a collaborative manner with other team members to accomplish departmental and  organizational goals
* Provides ideas to improve organizational efficiency at project and program levels 
* Adheres to Sidra's standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

 

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Experience:


 

Experience
* Successful completion of Post -Doc fellowship
* 2+ years research experience post-PhD
* Academic/Industrial research experience with publications in peer-reviewed academic journals and/or conferencesJob Specific Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within the field
* Knowledge of scientific research methods and evaluation of research results
* Ability to develop and maintain own knowledge and skills at the forefront of field
* Ability to balance self-directed work while being an effective member of an interdisciplinary team
* Demonstrated ability to write and edit scientific information for a general audience
* Ability to work very effectively with diverse teams internally and externa
